UPDATES FROM THE COLLABORATIVE

The Collaborative’s Funding Partners meet twice a month to share updates on their individual and collective grantmaking, review new requests, explore relevant data, discuss challenges and opportunities across the broader recovery landscape, coordinate with the public sector, community members, other local recovery champions, and welcome special guests and subject matter experts.

Below is a brief summary of just a few of the Collaborative’s Funding Partners meetings. As autumn progresses, this space will be used to share updates on grantee initiatives as well as announce the latest grantees and so much more - stay tuned.

Our Collaborative recently explored the crucial role of community events in the recovery process. These gatherings provide opportunities to celebrate shared milestones, foster connections, and strengthen resilience during challenging times. Members discussed innovative funding strategies to support sponsorship requests for these events, ensuring they continue to serve as vital spaces for healing and unity.

Maui Recovery Funders Collaborative hosted the Lahaina Community Land Trust who gave a presentation on the current status of their recovery work to address the housing crisis in Maui. They have developed an insurance gap program with Maui County to support families in need, and are creating long-term easement programs to implement affordable housing that will stay affordable for generations to come.

The American Red Cross shared recent data underscoring the critical need for financial literacy education during disaster recovery. Their findings highlighted the importance of providing resources and personalized 1:1 assistance to help fire-impacted individuals navigate significant income changes and make informed financial decisions.

The Collaborative reviewed the UHERO Public Health Report: Initial Findings from the Maui Wildfire Exposure Study:

This report highlighted the need for increased mental and behavioral health supports that are culturally specific and trauma-informed. 

The Collaborative focused its twice-monthly Request Review meeting on relevant applications seeking support for local mental and behavioral health needs.
